Every May, we take a moment to celebrate something close to our hearts – Oregon Wine Month. It’s a time to reflect on what makes Oregon wine so special: our deep connection to the land, the unique character of each vintage, and the people who bring it all to life.
At Dobbes, we’re a small, hands-on team. Every bottle we craft is touched by our own hands and shaped by the passion that drives us. Oregon Wine Month gives us a chance to showcase the wines we’re proud of – whether it’s a new release or a longtime favorite that tells the story of a past harvest.
May also marks the beginning of the season we love most. The days are longer, the afternoons are warm and golden, and there’s a renewed sense of energy in the air. It’s a time to be outdoors, to take in the beauty of this place we call home, and to gather with the people we care about.
Here at the winery, the team is busy getting ready for the upcoming summer growing season. Now that bud break has happened, we carefully watch the vines grow and spread. And in the Tasting Room, we’re pouring more wines, opening more bottles, and welcoming conversations that go beyond the glass. Whether it’s at the winery or around someone’s kitchen table, we’re reminded that wine is ultimately about connection—the simple joy of sharing something meaningful.
We also love seeing our wines inspire creativity in the kitchen. This month, our friends at Trellis shared a beautiful Lemon Orzo recipe that captures the flavors of spring. It’s a fresh, versatile dish that pairs wonderfully with our Dobbes Chardonnay and complements a variety of entrees from roasted vegetables to grilled chicken or pork. It’s just one more way we’re celebrating the season – through good food, great wine, and community.
2 tbs. butter
¼ cup minced garlic
¼ cup chopped shallot
¼ cup chopped leek
¼ cup Dobbes Family Winery Chardonnay
20oz. Orzo pasta
2 ½ cup chicken broth (can be substituted with vegetable stock)
Zest and juice of one lemon
½ cup heavy cream
½ cup Pecorino Romano
1 tsp. salt and pepper
1 tsp. red pepper flakes
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
Heat the pan over medium heat and melt the butter. Add garlic, shallot, and leek to the pan and sauté until fragrant and soft. About 5 to 7 minutes. Deglaze the pan with the wine; be sure to scrape up any of the brown bits for extra flavor. Stir in the orzo, making sure to coat it with the butter and vegetable mix. Pour chicken stock and let it simmer gently for a few minutes. Add zest and lemon juice, followed by the heavy cream, seasonings, and grated Pecorino Romano. Make sure to taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Cover the pan and let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until the orzo is tender and creamy. Serve in a large dish and garnish with fresh herbs, more Pecorino Romano, and a drizzle of olive oil.
So if you’re raising a glass this Oregon Wine Month, we hope it’s filled with something delicious—and that it brings you closer to the people who make life richer.
From all of us at Dobbes – cheers to good food, good wine, and good company.
