Derek Einberger

Winemaker for Dobbes Family Winery

Read Bio

Born the son of a winemaker in the Napa Valley, Derek grew up with an appreciation for great food and wine, but a career in the wine business wasn’t his initial plan. Einberger received his bachelor’s degree in studio art in 2003 from the University of the Redlands and moved to Oregon to pursue a career as an artist. When gallery work failed to provide a consistent living, Derek began working in restaurants where his passion for food and beverage was reignited.

Inspired to gain experience in craft beverage, Einberger moved to Portland, Oregon, and brewed beer for five years.

After overseeing many successful fermentations at well-known breweries like Alameda Brewing, Bridgeport Brewing, and McMenamins, Einberger set his sights on premium winemaking and completed harvest internships around the world to bolster his enology skills. Cellar roles at the legendary Vietti in northern Italy, Silver Oak/Twomey in Healdsburg, California, and Joseph Phelps in Napa unveiled Einberger’s talent for making fine Pinot Noir and his passion for innovation in the cellar.

Oregon drew Einberger back in 2009 when he served as cellar master for Willamette Valley producer Lemelson Vineyards alongside his mentor, winemaker Anthony King. Einberger was then quickly hired as winemaker and vineyard manager for Patton Valley Vineyard, where he eventually became part-owner and where he made inspiring Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Kari DeVol

Wine Club Manager

Read Bio

I was born in Canada and moved to the Bay Area in California as a teen. I moved to Boise, Idaho as an adult and finally to Oregon in April of 2020. I hope to never leave Oregon!

I started with wine as a consumer and wine club member. I began pouring wine at Cinder Wines for fun and fell in love with the industry. I transitioned to working remotely for Wine Club and Direct to Consumer when we moved to Oregon. I enjoyed working for Cinder Wines but decided I was ready to embrace Oregon wine and was fortunate to land at Dobbes Family Estate.

What draws me to wine is the story behind it. I love how the same wine can be so different depending on the year. I find it fascinating how weather, soils, temperature, etc. affect a wine from year to year. I love how different regions produce such different wines and the number of grape varietals is astounding. I fell in love with Oregon wine at that moment and have continued to grow in my appreciation and love of Oregon wine. Dobbes Family Estate knocked my socks off at my first tasting, both the wine and the people.

I have my WSET II and am hoping to start my WSET III soon. In college, I studied Geology which aids in my understanding of soils and topography and how they affect wine.

I love spending time by any body of water. I love the ocean and we frequent the different beaches along the Oregon coast as well as the beautiful rivers and lakes in the area. We love to paddleboard and kayak. Family is important to me, and I love to spend time with them.  My best days are when we are all together!
